The genus name is derived from the Greek pteron, which
Means wing, and karpos, which means fruit, referring to
the flat, winged pods characteristic of the genus.
The NARRA is a medium to large tree with an irregular trunk, the height of narra tree is up to 40 m and a diameter up to 200 cm. It thrives best in flats and guilles, on moist sandy loam or clay loam soil. It is found in association with dipterocarp species and needs sufficient moisture for its growth.
